CTUSAB: Late pay not good enough
Published on: 10/10/07.
THE Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations (CTUSAB) has described the late payment of salaries for hundreds of public officers as reprehensible.
In a release issued late yesterday general secretary Dennis dePeiza said the recurring problem raised serious questions about the level of planning and management within some ministries and departments of Government.
dePeiza said the matter would come up for discussion with the sub-committee of the Social Partners with the view to press for a comprehensive review of the monthly payment system.
"CTUSAB holds the view that such a failing serves to demoralise public officers and undermines their confidence in the system. Moreover, as the single largest and supposedly model employer, Government must be chided for allowing this set of prevailing circumstances to exist."
dePeiza said the frustration that public workers experienced over the late payment of salaries did little to stimulate worker productivity as promoted under Protocol IV. Done so before
He said CTUSAB had in the past made interventions to the sub-committee of the Social Partnership regarding the late payment of salaries.
The problem which temporary teachers now faced was a problem for the police, fire officers, and prison officers.
Despite promises by Government to rectify the situation, it appeared that little or no progress had been made to address the inadequacies within the system, CTUSAB said. (PR)
