INDEPENDENT, IMPATIENT, very hardworking and well loved.
These were some of the words used to describe 100-year-old Helena Augustus Norris by her children.
From Britain, the United States and here in Barbados they came, all to celebrate with Norris yesterday at Cornerstone Nursing Home in St Joseph.
Norris was a washer at the St John District Hospital before she retired. She lived in Clifton Hall, St John, and raised six children. She also has 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grands.
In her latter years, she was taken care of by daughter Yvonne Norris, and two years ag, moved into the nursing home owned by daughter Lilian Lorde.
The centenarian is still strong of body, with only difficulties in hearing and seeing.
Her family said it was "wonderful" and "unbelievable" for them to be able to witness her 100th birthday. (CA)
