JUST TWO YEARS after the much needed foot bridge in Easy Hall, St John, was built, pieces of it have disappeared believed stolen.
Some parts of the thick wooden handrails have been torn away.
Hugh Springer, a St Joseph resident who frequents the area, said he noticed the handles were disappearing from about two weeks ago.
"I want whoever is doing this to stop," he urged. "This was built for the safety of the community, especially the little children, because everybody had to walk through the gully. Or you would have to walk all around the road which is about two to three miles."
Springer added: "The MP for St Joseph [Dale Marshall] saw it fit to get this bridge built in 2005 and now we are missing some parts of the handrails."
Springer said he had not seen anyone taking parts away but if they were broken off by accident, "you would still see the wood on the bridge".
The DAILY NATION was unable to reach Marshall for comment as he was out of the country.
However, Deputy Chief Technical Officer Philip Tudor of the Ministry of Public Works said the ministry would investigate the matter urgently. (TM)
