BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY (BLP) candidate for the City of Bridgetown, Lieutenant-Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, has several programmes in store
to transform the capital.
Speaking to a boisterous crowd who cheered and danced in the streets to show their support on Thursday night in Wellington Street, The City, he said: "I pledge to you that after January 15, I will establish the City of Bridgetown Development Council which will look after the needs of this constituency in a way that is beyond your imagination."
The council, he said, would have several components, including a group responsible for training in the technical, vocational and educational fields to help constituents gain or improve their skills and combat the high unemployment rate in the constituency.
Furthermore, Bostic said he would establish a committee to search for jobs for those unemployed.
He is also planning to:
* upgrade at least 108 houses, to the tune of $1.6 million;
* improve Emmerton Community Centre;
* construct a multi-purpose centre at London Bourne Towers;
* create an environment programme to reduce flooding caused by illegal dumping;
* create a City of Bridgetown Youth Council, with plans to have two summer camps this year;
* establish a strong cultural base by creating a sports group, a Cityfest and The City of Bridgetown Steel Orchestra. (TM)
