Hall lands double

TORONTO, Canada Trainer Sean Hall scored two victories and jockey Simon Husbands was also a winner as Barbadians collected three wins on Wednesday evening's Woodbine horse racing card.
Hall, son of legendary West Indies cricketer Wes Hall, scored in the second and fourth races for his first double-win of the season, while Husbands was astride the third race winner.
In the CAN$37 100 second race over seven furlongs, the 9-to-1 bet Wisdomisgold scored a surprise victory for trainer Hall in one minute, 24.77 seconds under jockey Julia Brimo.
The four-year-old filly, owned by Blues Thoroughbred Inc., won by 2-1/4 lengths, chased by Spirit Away under title-chasing Barbadian jockey Patrick Husbands.
Simon Husbands, the older brother of Patrick, won the six-furlong third race aboard Stonington in 1:11.20 minutes.
The seven-year-old mare, a 3-1 second favourite, led the field and won by 3-1/2 lengths in the CAN$67 600 event, the richest on the card.
Hall completed his double by winning the CAN$64 000 Allowance fourth race over 6-1/2 furlongs with Anglias Girl.
Ridden by Brimo, Anglias Girl, the 3-1 second favourite, showed good speed and won easily by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:18.30 minutes.
There was no change in the jockeys' championship race as leading rider and reigning champion Emma-Jayne Wilson and Patrick Husbands both failed to make a winners' enclosure appearance.
With 6-1/2 weeks 34 race days remaining in the racing year at Woodbine, Wilson (115) holds a 12-win lead over three-time champion Husbands (103).
Husbands, Woodbine's top rider in 1999, 2000, and 2002, is also in line for the Sovereign Award as outstanding jockey of the year for the fifth time.
The Sovereign Award is decided by votes, and, irrespective of the outcome of the championship, he is well placed because of his superior stakes success so far this year. (CMC)
