EFFERVESCENT PERFORMER Faye-Ann Lyons-Alvarez is the new Road March winner in Trinidad, getting sweet vindication after many felt she deserved a higher position in last Friday's International Soca Monarch contest.
Faye-Ann, who performed on the main music truck of the largest masquerade band, Tribes Myths & Magic, on Carnival Tuesday, dominated the streets of Port-of-Spain with her song Get On, which was played 331 times.
Get On, which merely earned her third place in the Soca Monarch Contest a decision publicly criticised by her husband Bunji Garlin, father Super Blue and hundreds of fans was a clear winner this time by the people's vote when the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation announced the results yesterday.
She convincingly beat Dexter Blaxx Stewart into second place with his Breathless, featuring the infectious chant Muh hands up in de air/It's time dat I declare/Dat ah doing what ah want (what ah want). It was played 125 times on the road.
Third was Machel Montano, Trinidad's most beloved artiste, with his Blazing The Trail being played 72 times.
