INNOVATION at its best was on show at the annual Agrofest show which concluded yesterday at Queen's Park with thousands of people in attendance.

Visitors to some of the many booths saw banana paper, banana art, a banana lamp shade (from Christobel Ishmael), syrups and barbecue sauces made from golden apple, and pumpkin cheese cake.

These were some of the products derived from home-grown produce and on show yesterday at the Barbados Manufacturers Association (BMA) Bajan Fuh Real tent.

Finalist in the 2007/2008 National Innovation competition, Oronde Callender, caught the attention of many with his tasty golden apple pies. So too did Lionel Roberts with his Lionel's Golden Apple Barbecue Sauce which he served with Black Belly sheep and grilled potatoes.

For those who love steam pudding but do not like to make it, they now have the option of using the sweet potato mix and one also for pumpkin cheese cake. These products, which have been made by a number of small manufacturers, are being distributed islandwide.

Executive director of the BMA, Bobbi McKay, was happy with the turnout at its tent pointing out that patrons took the opportunity to sample the many Bajan products and view the merchandise of 18 exhibitors in the beauty, fashion, eatery, ceramic and decorating businesses. (KB)
