THEY turned out in their hundreds to bid farewell to prominent attorney-at-law Alfred Henderson "Freddie" Clarke yesterday.
His funeral at St Leonard's Anglican Church drew members of the judiciary, others from the legal fraternity and the business community.
Clarke, a retired corporate lawyer, died suddenly at his Golf Club Road, Christ Church home last Wednesday. He founded the law firm Alfred H. Clarke, now known as Clarke, Gittens, Farmer & Juris Chambers, in which his son Brian and daughter Gillian are partners.
In a homily delivered by family friend Reverend David Tudor, Clarke was remembered as the man who was instrumental in the reordering of the legal arrangements in several companies across the Caribbean.
Governor-General Sir Clifford Husbands, Prime Minister David Thompson and his wife Mara, Attorney-General Freundel Stuart, and Chief Justice Sir David Simmonds and Lady Simmonds were among the several dignitaries attending. Pallbearers included Jamaican businessman Pat Rousseau, while Lance Corporal Omar Clarke from the Jamaica Defence Force played the Last Post and Reveille, in tribute to Clarke's service as a member of that country's military when he lived there.
