Transportation talks Wednesday

NEXT WEDNESDAY stakeholders in Barbados' transportation system can have their say.
The Ministry of Transport, Works and International Transport will be holding a symposium on transportation at Sherbourne Conference Centre, Two-Mile Hill, St Michael.
"This [symposium] is going to be dealing with more or less two items at the same time. It is being sponsored by the Transport Authority with the technical support [provided] by the Ministry of Transport, Works and International Transport," said Minister of Transport, Works and International Transport John Boyce on Sunday at a Democratic Labour Party branch meeting.
Sixty people are expected to participate.
"The symposium is to bring together the stakeholders in the area of transport to discuss some of the solutions that were talked about. One of the things I've tried to do as minister is try to turn around the relationship between the private service vehicles and the Government-operated Transport Board and indeed the public perception of the relationship between the two," Boyce added.
The minister also noted that although he had done "nothing to directly change the behaviour or the speeding or the noise on the minibuses" he was "getting the impression" that the police were "working harder to control these areas" of the public transport system. (DS)
