Turton king of the road

JOHN TURTON once again showed that he is king of the road, winning the Barbados Cycling Union's six-lap road race on the St John circuit on Sunday.
Riding in the colours of the St Philip-based Lentech Golden Wheelers, Turton broke away from the pack on the second lap and was never caught thereafter, crossing the finish line in two hours, 30 minutes, 42 seconds.
It came down to a sprint for second place and Darren Griffith pipped old- stager Greg Downie on the line, with Devon Carter finishing fourth and Steve Marshall fifth.
The juniors also rode the full distance and Mario Forde emerged winner in 2:32.42 secs from the versatile Jason Wilson and Darren Matthews, while Selwyn Jones won the five-lap Masters segment from Gregory Catwell and former national road race champion, Ricky Fergusson.
Russell Elcock topped the Juveniles category and Crystal Springer triumphed among the Tinymites. (EZS)
