LIAT's executive management has been meeting with the political leadership in Guyana to look at ways of strengthening service by the airline to that South American nation.
Mark Darby, LIAT's chief executive officer, said, "Guyana is an important market for us and where there are options to connect the island to other states we feel bound to explore those possibilities. Our visit to Georgetown is to affirm our commitment to and interest in our customers here."
Of particular interest to LIAT is the construction of the Ogle Airport in Georgetown, which when completed will present the airline with exciting additional operating prospects.
The discussions which were held with Prime Minister Sam Hinds, as well as Minister responsible for Aviation, Robson Benn, also discussed the state of the navigation aids at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport as the airline seeks to offer optimum service to its customers.
LIAT is also keen on engaging in a relationship with Guyana's Ministry of Tourism to look at developing initiatives that will boost that sector. This is an aspect of an overall plan that will see renewed impetus by the carrier to boost its service. (PR)
