POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING the apparent suicide of Hugh Carmichael Alleyne.

The body of the 27-year-old man of Ermie Bourne Highway, St Andrew, was found about 7:30 p.m. on Thursday on the same highway.

Reports indicated that Alleyne allegedly consumed herbicide prior to the discovery of his body.

Yesterday when the SATURDAY SUN visited the family home at Alleyne School Gap, St Andrew, his mother, Marian Alleyne, said the last time she saw him alive, around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, he showed no signs of stress.

"The boys on the block used to tease him and say he had AIDS and they told me he used to reply: 'If I have AIDS I might as well be dead'," she said.

His home was in the process of being refurbished, she added.

"He was quiet and respectful. He was a nice boy, only he used to smoke weed. He didn't get into any trouble," she said.
