Dead birds found at St Thomas farm

FORMER SPEAKER of the House of Assembly Lindsay Bolden is today pondering why someone is trying to destroy his birds.
Bolden, owner of Ayshford Ratite Gardens in St Thomas, has lost two more ostriches to vandals. He found the birds with their throats cut and their heads bashed in early yesterday morning. He said this was not the first time someone had destroyed his animals.
He told the DAILY NATION yesterday he lost a couple of emus last week and two years ago lost 32 birds.
Manager of the farm, Ann-Marie Hodgson, said the losses stood at "a good few thousand" dollars.
"There is a market in Barbados for the eggs, skin and meat of these animals but we cannot get off the ground.
"We are trying to build a business. I can't understand why anyone is doing this; it's very frustrating. I'm at a loss for words," she said. (CA)
