A 22-year-old BaRBADIAN, Jamal Oughterson, was killed in Brooklyn by an unknown assailant during the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to police, the young man was shot outside a Brooklyn club where he had gone to meet a girl and his body was later found in the back seat of his mother's car five blocks away from the scene of the shooting.

"We are investigating the killing as a drive-by shooting, which may have been linked to a dispute over a girl," said a police source.

"We have been told that he received a telephone call an hour before the killing, telling him to meet a young woman at a club on Fulton Street and as soon as he got out of his mother's car a black vehicle drove up and shots were fired, hitting him.

"Realising that he was shot, his friends who were in the car with him put him in the back seat in what may have been a vain attempt to get him to a hospital or away from the scene in case more shots were fired. He died in his mother's car," the source said.

Jamal was the son of Carol and Tyrone Oughterson. "He was a loving son and I can't imagine why anyone would wish to harm him," his mother said last night.
