PROMISING ALL-ROUNDER Carlos Brathwaite led a devastating assault on the St James Settlers bowlers as the Christ Church Dolphins romped into the final of the UWI CO Williams Construction 30/30 Inter-Parish Cricket Competition on Wednesday night at the 3Ws Oval.
Brathwaite smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground in his 50-ball innings of 98, registering five fours and eight sixes as the Dolphins racked up a massive 267 for four from 30 overs.
The former Combermere six-footer and Banks Division 1 player was ably supported by the in-form Kyle Hope, fresh from a century earlier in the tournament, and Eric Batson, who both made boundary-studded half-centuries.
Batson (51) and opening partner Winslow Harris provided the perfect platform for the impending onslaught with a partnership of 63, before Brathwaite and Hope (57) ran the Settlers ragged in posting a stand of 125 in ten overs for the third wicket.
The daunting task of scoring at nine runs per over proved beyond St James Settlers, last year's losing finalists, who were never in the hunt despite the efforts of skipper Carlo Morris (39), Ryan Wiggins (36), and Shirley Clarke (31).
Brathwaite completed a satisfactory night's effort, claiming two wickets for 33 in St James' reply of 172 for nine as the Dolphins ran out easy winners by a massive 95 runs.
Summarised scores
Christ Church Dolphins 267-4 in 30 overs (Carlos Brathwaite 98, Kyle Hope 57, Eric Batson 51, R. Wiggins 2-47). St James Settlers 172-9 in 30 overs (C. Morris 39, R. Wiggins 36, S. Clarke 31; W. Lashley 2-28, C. Brathwaite 2-33, M. Matthews 2-38). Christ Church Dolphins won by 95 runs.
