IT WAS ALL BRUGGADUNG II in the second annual Mount Gay-sponsored Blue Monkey Regatta which took place just off the Blue Monkey Restaurant and Bar on the West Coast last Sunday.
Captained by the experienced Paul Johnson, the nine-member crew on Bruggadung raced to their second successive victory in the racing class ahead of fast second-place finisher Blazing, with Jaystar trailing in third place.
Speaking briefly with WEEKEND NATIONSPORTS after being crowned champion, Johnson said he and his crew were happy to have won the event for the second year.
"It was a wonderful and enjoyable event. We had good conditions which were conducive to good sailing and we really enjoyed ourselvess out there today.
"No praise is enough for the sponsors and organisers who put together such a wonderful event again this year," he said.
In the recently introduced J-24 class, the Barbados National Bank-sponsored Impulse, skippered by Neil Burke, sailed to the top of the class leaving Fade Away living up to its name by fading to a distant second, while Hawk Eye took third position. In fourth position was Shaking, fifth was Rover and sixth, Son Of A Gun.
In the cruising class No Compromise and crew were not about to compromise their position at the top to let in Gypsy or Asmara, who finished the tournament in second and third places respectively. The big McGuffy had to settle for fourth place. (CH)
