Deputy Chief Education Officer Glenroy Cumberbatch said it was the only way children could reach theirfull potential.
He drew reference to the Ministry of Education hauling some parents before the courts because of the persistent absence of their charges at school.
"It is important that you send your children to school," he stressed.
He was speaking during the graduation and prize giving ceremony of Vauxhall Primary
School at the Sherbourne Conference Centre last Friday.
Turning his attention to the students, he exhorted them that when making decisions they should bear in mind "what will my teachers and parents think?"
If they thought their actions would bring shame to their parents or teachers, according to Cumberbatch they should refrain from such behaviour.
The most outstanding students of the Christ Church school were Shaneanoah Carter
who will be attending The St Michael School, Jared Davis and Gregory Ruck who
secured places at Queen's College, and Babafemi Fashipe who passed for Harrison College.
