Marshals' office dispute settled

ACTING CHIEF COURT MARSHAL Levi Austin finally received the keys to the front door to his new office at the Sugar Cane Mall, Roebuck Street, yesterday afternoon.
True to their word, the marshals assembled outside the building Tuesday morning and refused to work until the keys were handed over.
On Monday, the first day they moved into the building, they found the front door locked and were informed by security guards posted outside their office that they would have to enter the building through the back door.
Wayne Walrond, industrial relations officer of the National Union of Public Workers, said the scheduled meeting between the workers and Acting Registrar Marva Clarke did not materialise because the registrar was engaged.
However, he said the issue of access to the building was settled after the keys were handed over to the chief marshal.
Walrond told the DAILY NATION before the meeting that, apart from the issue about access, there was also a problem with the roles of The Acting Chief Marshal Levi Austin and his deputy Adrian Lovell.
"There appears to be a strained relationship in terms of the chain of command between the chief and the deputy and we have to get that sorted out", he stated. (MB)
