RECENT WINNERS Silver Guineas and Washbrook will clash once again in the Dunfermline Condition at the Garrison tomorrow, Scotty's Queen's Plate Day.
The William Clarke-trained Silver Guineas was an easy winner going tomorrow's distance of 1 570 metres last race day.
The Lord Michael Taylor/Clifton Racing-owned dark bay colt was ridden by stable jockey Andy Ward who gets the leg up again tomorrow.
Prior to that win, Silver Guineas was beaten into second position by creole Gudfridie over 1 800 metres on July 5, and he won his first race since coming to Barbados when making all to win over 1 570 metres with Luis-Phillipe Beuzelin aboard on May 12.
Impressive
The distance of 1 570 metres seems to be Silver Guineas' best and with Ward once again in the saddle, he should be around at the finish.
The Clayton Greenidge-trained Washbrook seems a bit more enigmatic. The Faraway Stables-owned colt was an impressive winner over tomorrow's distance on July 5 when, with Chris Husbands aboard, he blew away the opposition.
That win was so impressive it was felt he would have been hard to beat whenever he came back out. But this was not to be. He came back out on Pinnacle Feeds Limited Day and was expected to cakewalk a 1 000 metres event but was unplaced behind all-the-way winner Bhanu.
It is true that distance might have been too sharp for him but despite this he should have finished much better than sixth.
He returns to 1 570 metres tomorrow so he has the perfect opportunity to redeem himself, although he has to overcome Silver Guineas and some other useful sorts.
Consistent
Among his opponents are the consistent Top Lady, who, although seldom winning, is always in the money in these kinds of races; Compton Fields, another with some useful form but who is finding it difficult to get his head in front; the Liz Deane-trained trio of Proud Bajan, Just Jivin' and Preach
To Me, either of which is capable of winning on their best day; along with Fully Loaded and creole Hawayan Tropic, who should go much better at tomorrow's distance.
The Hi-5, which carries a guaranteed stake of $7 500, will be on the 1 000 metres Aureole Condition for three-year-old maidens, while the Pick-4, with a guaranteed payout of $2 000, will be on Races 5, 6, 7 and 9.
