Vigil for Virginia Tech victims
Published on: 4/27/07.
STUDENTS AT the Cave Hill Campus gathered as many have across the world in memory of the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre that took place some days ago.
"We gather today not just to celebrate the lives of the (33) victims, but take a stand against violence worldwide, especially against students," said Christopher Forde, public relations officer (PRO) for the Catholic Students Movement, who, along with the PRO for the Guild Council Marc Ramsay was responsible for organising the vigil.
Several students from various nationalities and religions gathered at the gates of the Frank Worrell Hall of Residence, said prayers and exchanged thoughts on the incident.
The gathering then marched the span of the campus singing songs of hope and love, to the glowing light of candles and flashlights.
In attendance were councillors from the Guild of Students, executive members from various clubs and associations, including the Catholic Students Movement, Law Society and the Islamic Movement, and several from the general student population.
"It is important that we not only remember the victims but the killer, because how often do we find ourselves not extending love and compassion towards individuals who appear lonely or troubled," said guild president Kevon Henry. (RG)
