KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia West Indies have backed themselves to beat India in their must-win game in Group B of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup today.
With two points from two matches after losing to South Africa and then beating Papua New Guinea, West Indies need a victory over the group leaders India in order to make the quarter-finals.
Attractive stroke-player Keiran Powell, who has scored half-centuries in both matches, said he was intent on delivering again and getting an all important century.
"I have been getting good starts but I have not been able to convert to a big score. Tomorrow will be another golden opportunity and I know exactly what I have to do this time," the 17-year-old said.
"I'm in a good batting patch at the moment and I'm looking to maximise for myself, and mostly for the team. A good start is always important. It would mean a lot to me if I get three figures and we go on to win the game.
To me, that would be a breakthrough."
West Indies put up a good fight in their opener on Monday but still went down by three wickets to the Proteas. In their second match Wednesday, they beat up on whipping boys Papua New Guinea by 176 runs.
Powell said while the team was focused on winning their crucial clash against India, they would continue to play positively.
"This match is the most crucial of the tournament so far, but we won't be putting any pressure on ourselves.
"We will continue to play our natural game and believe in our ability," Powell said.
