UWI honours five staff

THE UNIVERSITY of the West Indies has honoured five of its academic staff for excellence in their fields of study.
At a function on Wednesday night at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination at the Cave Hill Campus, the five were presented with the 2007 Vice Chancellor's Award:
From the Cave Hill Campus, Professor Pranay Chaudhuri for all round excellence in performance research and for service to the university community. He heads the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics;
Professor Alvin Thompson, also from Cave Hill, of the Department of History and Philosophy, for excellence in research;
From the Mona Campus in Jamaica, Professor Susan Walker of the Tropical Medicine Research Institute for outstanding accomplishments in research;
Dr Tomlin Paul, also of Mona, of the Department of Community Health and Psychiatry for excellence in teaching; and
Dr John Campbell of the Department of History at Trinidad's St Augustine Campus for excellence in teaching.
Addressing the function, Professor Henry Fraser had high praise for the awardees. (RC-A)
