Sir Allen: Three breaking visa pact
Published on: 2/8/07.
INDEPENDENT SENATOR SIR ALLAN FIELDS is concerned that three of the ten countries involved in hosting Cricket World Cup (CWC) have opted to grant visas to visitors on arrival at their respective ports of entry.
He said this was contrary to the position taken by the remaining countries, including Barbados, that visas must be obtained before arriving at the intended destination.
His comments came in the Upper Chamber yesterday during debate on amendments to the Immigration Act and the Customs Act, in preparation for CWC events.
He said that history showed that while Barbados tended to abide by agreements, others reneged on their commitments.
He said according to his information, the three countries had made it quite clear that visitors coming from countries which needed a visa could get the document on arrival.
He said if this was the case, that action could have a negative impact on visitors coming to Barbados.
