Major sponsors to mark 80 years of Rockley golf
Published on: 9/30/06.
ORGANISERS of Rockley's 80th anniversary of golf have announced major sponsorship from Eric Hassell & Son and Seaboard Marine for next weekend's series of competitions marking the occasion.
Chairman of the organising committee, Ian Dowding, said players and guests would receive considerable value for money.
Several other corporate and individual sponsors are on board to guarantee a memorable climax to the activities.
With Monday's deadline for entries approaching, participants are reminded to register immediately to ensure they have a place.
The golfing events take the form of a nine-hole tournament for golfers of over 60 years on Friday, and a two-day team competition where the same partners will play on Saturday and Sunday.
Several Rockley regulars who are not members are expected to turn out for the weekend competitions to boost the competitiveness of the occasion.
A grand ceremony and get-together comes off Sunday evening where Rockley's contribution to local and regional golf will be highlighted.
Rockley, home of organised golf in 1926, was the site chosen for the first commercial airplane landing in Barbados. (BA/PR)
