PRESCOD HOUSE (Purple) ended Adams House's (Blue) winning streak at six when the Lester Vaughan Secondary School held its
Inter-House Sports at the National Stadium yesterday, after a one-year break.
They won the girls' category and were second behind Walcott House (Orange) in the boys' division to top the overall standings on 630 points.
Adams finished second on 582, while Walcott were third on 565, Barrow (Gold) fourth on 404, Gill (Green) fifth on 372, and Sobers (Red) sixth on 366.
In recent years, Lester Vaughan have been strong title contenders at the Inter-Schools Sports, and yesterday's sports day attracted wide interest, especially as a few of the school's most dominant athletes have graduated.
The other marquee athletes did not disappoint, as four track records went by the wayside in the sprints and sprint hurdles, taking the overall tally to seven.
Double Central American and Caribbean (CAC) gold medallist Kierre Beckles, now competing in the Under-20 Division, got the ball rolling when she won the Senior Girls' 100-metres hurdles for Adams House. She crossed the line in 14.23 seconds, erasing the previous record of 14.3 seconds.
The other hurdles record went to Rhys Phillips of Gill House, whose time of 12.37 seconds in the Junior Boys' 80-metres hurdles shattered the old mark of 13.7 seconds.
Victor ludorum Andre Harper of Walcott set a new time of 10.66 seconds in the 100 metres, erasing the 10.8 standard set by Andrew Holder.
A representative for Barbados at the CARIFTA and CAC Juniors, Harper won the Under-20 Boys' Division with 54 points.
He also won the 200 metres, high jump, and javelin, was second in the long jump and third in the shot put.
Sobers' Kenrisha Brathwaite won the Under-17 Girls' 100 metres in 12.00 seconds, shaving three-tenths of a second off the old record.
The other three records were set before sports day by Barrow House's Brandon Inniss.
The 14-year-old national junior weightlifter erased the Junior Boys' shot put, javelin and discus records. His throw of 37.38 metres in the discus was more than ten metres better than the previous mark of 27.11.
Inniss also won the 100 and 200 metres, and ran in the sprint relay just before leaving the Stadium for Slovakia, where he will compete in an international weightlifting event.
He was an impressive winner of the Under-15 Division.
Prescod were led by victrix ludorum Jamacy Drayton, who won the Under-20 Girls' Division with 50 points.
She was victorious in the long jump and shot put, second in the high jump and 1 500 metres, third in the 100-metres hurdles and fifth in the discus and 100 metres.
