And according to Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Reverend Joseph Atherley, it was a job well done so far.
Speaking to members of the media after a tour of rural areas to inspect the houses yesterday, Atherley, said he was pleased with the quality and pace of the work carried out so far.
He said the occupants of some of these houses which were rebuilt and repaired by the Rural Development Commission (RDC), said their homes were now in a better condition.
"Generally, I feel satisfied with what I have seen so far."
"The pace is satisfactory and the quality is excellent," the Acting Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said after visiting houses at Branchbury and Mellowes, St Joseph, and Brereton and Padmore Village, St Philip.
When questioned, Atherley said Government would improve its future housing restoration plans.
"We would work faster to get assessments done to advise Government in the best possible way to responds," Atherley explained.
Last year, Government approved a $4 million emergency supplemental to effect repairs and restoration on houses damaged by Hurricane Ivan.
Stating that he could not comment on whether or not the houses could withstand a Category 3 hurricane, Atherley said he could only advise Barbadians to prepare themselves for any disaster.
