THEY were screaming yellow for the third year running as Set C, on the back of their depth in the field events, were in triumphant mood at the Deighton Griffith in-house track & field meet held at the school's grounds in Kingsland, yesterday.
Set C achieved their latest conquest in the Powerade Sports Series by a 77-point margin and clearly the dividing line between them and nearest challengers Set A (Red House) was in the field events.
Whereas Red House spearheaded by the school's most promising female athlete Shavonne Husbands matched them on the track, Yellow House commanded centrestage in the field, grabbing almost 70 points more than their nearest rivals.
The new champions chalked up 276.5 points in the field events while Red House managed just 216.
Overall, Yellow House finished with 981.5 points, well clear of Red with 904.5. Set D (Green) were third with 901 and Set B, who once ruled the roost for nine years running, were at the bottom with 767 points.
While championship glory belonged to Yellow House, the two biggest stars of the day were painted in red. Husbands, the tall long-striding second former was the class act of the girls' division 4 and the unquestioned Victrix Ludorum, while Jesse Haynes was just as commanding in the boys' division 4 and claimed the Victor Ludorum crown.
Husbands, 13, a product of Bonnetts, Brittons Hill, had six emphatic wins 100, 200, 400, 800, 1 500 and long jump and amassed 74 points. Haynes, who finished the afternoon by powering his house to victory in the medley relay, had 69 points.
Set B struggled most of the day but could point to the Division 1 boys champion in Michael Hurdle. He collected 52 points. The top Division 1 girl was Aisha MaCombie of Set D, who garnered 36 points by way of a sweep of the 100, 200 and 400 metres.
