THE 2007-2008 BCA Sir Everton Weekes Under-13 Knockout Trophy will be housed at Foundation School for the next year.
The lads from the Church Hill-based institution captured their first title at this level in their first final in convincing style.
In the rain-affected final at the Lester Vaughan School yesterday, they defeated former champions Combermere by seven wickets. Needing a revised target of 103 from 31 overs they were home and dry with eight overs to spare.
It was a match-winning unbroken third-wicket stand of 75 in 17. 5 overs, that brought home the glory. This was led by Man Of The Match Aaron Jones who made a splendid 47 along with an equally important 33 from all-rounder Jerome Jones. The diminutive Aaron hit four fours from 62 deliveries while Jerome faced 57 balls and had the solitary boundary. It was an excellent all-round performance from him as he had earlier claimed three wickets.
The pair linked up in the sixth over when Ramario Hermas was bowled by Davon Goodman for one.
Before that there was early success for the four-time champions when Jalani Dottin was caught at the wicket in the first over off Jeremy Jackman without troubling the scores. With the score on 27, Jackman put some worry in the Foundation camp by bowling skipper Joshua Walker for 16.
Once he and Goodman were rested there were to be no more problems except two stoppages for rain that lasted for a total of 36 minutes.
Earlier, Combermere, invited to bat, were dismissed off the final ball of the innings for a modest 116 when last man Demar Thorne was bowled by Jerome Jones without scoring.
Left-arm medium-pacer Jones, who was wicketless in his first spell of four overs for ten runs, picked up the final three wickets for 21 runs from his allotted seven overs.
He finished the job that was started by another medium-pacer, Shaquille Knight.
