BANKS SPURS' Division 1 team, stung by their 42-26 defeat last week at the hands of CO Williams Rangers, returned with a vengeance to thrash Smalta Carlton 44-29 when the National Sports Council Barbados Olympic Association Netball League continued at the Netball Stadium on Wednesday night.
Spurs played with much more purpose at the Waterford, St Michael stadium this time around, despite missing a large percentage of their attempts at goal. In their combined 68 attempts, only 44 found the target.
Worrying
Carib Carlton did not fare any better, landing only 29 of their 45 attempts.
This must be a most worrying sign for both teams as the season enters the second half.
For the Spurs, Shanise Banfield accounted for 27 of her 44 tries and Collen Griffith scored 17 of her 24 attempts. For Carlton, Talya Layne scored 14 of her 22 tries and Therese Clarke 15 of 23.
In the Sealy Intermediate Division 3, Andrea Puckerin scored 22 of 26 attempts to help Brydens V8 Splash to a 27-22 win over the M&N Auto St Mark.
Good support
She enjoyed good support from goal attack Leah Harper, who chipped in with five goals from six attempts. Alicia Adams netted 21 of 34 attempts and Keisha Collymore accounted for one goal from six tries.
In the second Sealy Division 3 match of the evening, Pine Hill St Barnabas clipped the wings of the UWI Eagles to register a 46-18 victory.
For St Barnabas, Laticia Thorne scored 19 from 26 attempts, Marvalene Neblett eight from nine, and Cassandra Cutting 19 from 28. Goal shooter Faith Hall scored all 18 goals for the Eagles.
In the Paul Intermediate Division 5, Sagicor Netball Club defeated DG United 27-15. Diane Cadogan-Forde netted 13 goals from 21 tries and Debbie Ann Nicholls had 14 from 20 attempts.
Tamisha Alleyne had three goals from six tries, Sasha Brathwaite six from seven and Shanika Moore six from eight.
Exciting
In the second match in this division, Sion Hill Spartans won an exciting encounter against Brydens V8 Splash 25-24.
Nikita Bishop got 23 goals from 31 attempts for the winners, while Rose-ann Bishop, with 12 goals from 20 tries, and Margaret Spooner (12 from 18) fought gamely in a losing cause.
In the Sinckler Intermediate Division 4, Tropic Ice Newbury beat CO Williams Rangers 24-19.
For Newbury, Beverley Marsh scored 19 goals from 25 attempts and Kimberley Bowen had five from nine tries. Georgia Barnett with four goals from seven tries, Marion Johnson-Hurley (11 from 16) and Chantal Husbands (four from five) scored for Rangers.
