YET ANOTHER Barbadian cricketer will be given the opportunity to step up into the big league in next year's English cricket season.
Fast bowler Ryan Nurse, who is now in his third year playing for Porthill Cricket Club in England, has been invited to trials for the Surrey 2nd X1 team in April of next year.
The offer was made by Nadeem Shahid, assistant coach of the Surrey Cricket Club after watching Nurse in action during the just concluded Rumsey Pro-Am cricket festival here in Barbados.
"This guy has tremendous talent, he hits the ball really hard, has a very good technique, he is a wholehearted cricketer. He has a good future but needs to be handled well," Shahid said.
"I am really impressed with what I saw of Nurse and will be trying hard to get him into the team next year," he added.
Nurse will be returning to Britain in April 2008 and could be playing his first game for Surrey the following month once everything is in place.
While he currently plays for his club Porthill on Saturdays, once he gets into the Surrey team he will be playing from Monday to Friday.
Speaking to NATION SPORT about the offer, Nurse said he was very excited.
"I am really looking forward to playing for Surrey once I am given the opportunity. I will try to maximize any opportunities that present themselves, and hopefully I can also impress the other Surrey management members," Nurse said.
