Rev: NHC is a good shepherd
Published on: 4/14/08.
JUST LIKE THE "good shepherd", the National Housing Corporation (NHC) does not cater only to the more privileged in society.
Reverend David Yarde, in delivering the sermon during
a service at All Souls Anglican Church, Bank Hall, St Michael, yesterday to mark the
NHC's 35th anniversary,
said it was important
for agencies to serve the
entire community.
Making references to the parable of the shepherd, Yarde said sheep had a tendency to go astray
and man had also strayed from God's path.
"No one but Jesus could lay down his life for his sheep; no one but Jesus could defeat death so one day we would all be one fold," he said.
He said there were some people who were not committed Christians and allowed material things to prevent them from identifying with God, advising the congregation to develop the spiritual power to hear God when He spoke.
Communing with God
"Where can we go where we are more likely to hear God's call? What can we do to make us humble enough to hear His call? What can we do to lessen the deception and heighten acceptance?
"We must have daily communication with God; obey his commandments and develop faith in God as our protector and redeemer. Our faith in God should be so firm that nothing is allowed to disrupt it," he said.
In addition to staff and board members of the NHC, representatives from the Barbados Fire Service, the National Union of Public Workers and the Cancer Support Services attended the service. (CA)
