Anything dubbed Vex Fete is bound to have some element of controversy.
And so it was at last night's event which saw young people of all shapes and sizes, some wearing everything from strips of cloth, to strips of cloth with jeans, pouring into the Colgate Palmolive venue on Prescod Boulevard.
What seemed to have been a great time for those who got inside the gates turned sour for a while after those on the outside, eager to get in, broke one of the gates, leading into the venue.
"All yuh see is de dogs turn up," said one young woman who spoke to the fact that security personnel with dogs were on the scene.
It was a strange sight to see, as for more than an hour throngs of people, dressed in their wuk-up best, milled around the outside of a venue from which came no sound.
After a while the music picked up again and Captain Sawyer's Big, Fat And Thick could be heard coming from within the walls.
It was clear however that the Royal Barbados Police Force intended to keep a close watch on the event and several squad cars passed slowly by the fete when it restarted.
But then, once more, someone or some people who were vexed, cross and miserable, stopped the fete.
This time, rather than breaking a fence, the result was breaking bottles.
Some people ran and others were dragged, as the crowd scattered.
Soon police, including personnel from the Special Services Unit (SSU), were on the scene and ambulances could be seen whisking away injured people.
But just as abruptly as it stopped, it started again.
Despite what seemed to be a mass exodus from the hot spot, the music struck back up again and more people could be seen heading to the party.
Some ingenious people took advantage of large shipping containers outside the venue.
Girls wearing the shortest of skirts seemingly had no qualms about making the climb just to get a sneak peek at the fun and frenzy on the inside.
At one point, some people could even be seen going through a break in the fence.
Efforts to reach management for comment proved futile.
