THE BARBADOS SENIOR FOOTBALL TEAM, replete with changes from the Digicel Cup campaign, played to a 0-0 draw against Guatemala in an international friendly at the National Stadium on Sunday. MIDWEEK SPORT reviews the performances.
Omari Eastmond Had a nervous start between the uprights on his senior debut; had little work to do, but made a good save off substitute Marvin Avila in the 67th minute. (6.5)
Dwight James Looked uncomfortable in the formation, but eventually got stuck in. (5.5)
Jarvis Forde Read the game well, looked confident in possession. His lack of pace was, however, exposed when Mario Rodriguez won the ball in the middle and ran at goal. (7.5)
Greg Belle Another debutant, used his size well and kept the Guatemala forwards moving away from goal. (7)
Johnathan Straker Did a commendable job considering he was playing out of position at right back; needed to give the attack more support going forward. (6.5)
Rohan Hall He was perhaps the busiest defender all night; made some strong tackles but, like Straker, needed to get forward more often. (6.5)
Malcolm Marshall The diminutive midfielder had a quiet first half, but grew in confidence and became more of a factor in the second half; had a good shot at goal in the first half. (7)
Gregory Goodridge Returned to the midfield after playing most of the Digicel Cup campaign at wing-back; tried to make a few runs at the Guatemala defence, but had an otherwise quiet game; substituted for Quincy Atherly. (5.5)
Norman Forde Flitted in and out of the match; had some good touches but did not appear to be at full fitness. (6.5)
Paul Lovell Another player who did not seem comfortable in the formation, supporting striker Rivierre Williams; had a few good touches in the attacking third and should have scored in the first half after a neat exchange with Williams; substituted for Dwayne McClean (5.5)
Rivierre Williams Created chances the few times the ball was played to his feet; was dropped back into the midfield late in game; had an encouraging return to national duty. Substituted for Shane Welch (7)
The subs:
Quincy Atherly Held up the ball well at times; had a good exchange with Forde that forced a scrambling intervention by the Guatemala defence. One of the players making their debut. (6)
Dwayne McClean Came on late and did not have enough time to make an impact another debutant. (No assessment)
Shane Welch Yet another debutant, he also came on late. (No assessment)
