CHAMPIONS EMPIRE preserved their unbeaten streak, Dwayne Smith hit another lightning hundred, and both youth teams recorded victories in the latest round of the Sagicor Super Cup.
Stand-in skipper Jason Parris cracked a hundred and led Empire to an imposing 304 for six off their allotted overs against BRC BCL at Bank Hall.
They won by just 38 runs in the end, as BCL, led by Kevin Marshall's 66, replied strongly with 266. Shawn Graham took four wickets with his rarely used leg-breaks.
At Wildey: On the eve of the West Indies "A" team's departure for England, dynamic Smith warmed up with a hundred of brute force as Caribbean Lumber YMPC rattled up a mammoth 355 for seven from their allotted 50 overs.
Smith lashed his second consecutive hundred in the Sagicor General Super Cup as YMPC returned to their winning ways with a comfortable 98- run victory over Cable & Wireless, who were dismissed for 257 with 69 balls to spare.
Ryan Layne hit a splendid 101 in 96 balls, but that was not enough to see his side home.
Earlier, the right-handed Smith was a tower of strength, belting seven huge sixes and nine boundaries from just 57 balls.
He brought up the hundred in grand style with a reverse sweep to the backward-point boundary off Ryan Layne.
Leg-spinner Layne, who came in for a caning with two for 84 off his ten overs, had the final laugh when Smith was stumped down the leg-side in the middle of the onslaught.
At Lester Vaughan: A perfect example of controlled bowling by all their bowlers enabled Barbados Youth "A" to defeat Spartan by an embarrassing 120 runs when they dismissed them for a paltry 90 from 25.4 overs.
All of the Barbados Youth "A" bowlers bowled excellent line and length, while their fielders were sharp in the field, as Spartan never looked like reaching a victory target of 210.
The day started in encouraging fashion for Spartan as the Barbados Youth "A" fell into early trouble at 68 for five in the 25th over.
Kemar Roach, who had a good all-round game, came to the rescue of his team by scoring 55 with five sixes and two fours, and when Spartan replied he picked up the important wickets of Wayne Blackman and Rohan Nurse.
At Waterford 'A': Guardian Youth B fought back brilliantly to beat Pickwick by 19 runs.
Chasing a target of 253, Pickwick were 138 for one at one stage with Kirk Edwards blazing away, but they collapsed badly, losing four wickets by the run-out route.
Edwards made 92 in 92 balls with ten fours and three sixes and added 99 for the second wicket with Ryan Arthur (72).
Earlier, the schoolboys built their total around a fifth-wicket stand of 92 between Kyle Hope (40) and Shamar Cooke, who lashed four sixes in his 75.
At Bayfield: Steered by consistent top-order batting, BNB St Catherine completed a comfortable five-wicket victory over Police.
Chasing Police's challenging total of 245 in 49.4 overs, which was built around a fine 103 from 25-year-old No.3 batsman Dwayne Yearwood who struck 12 fours and a six off 112 balls, St Catherine made 246 for five in 45.4 overs.
In-form opener Dayne Maynard (47) and Ahmed Proverbs (44) set the platform for the victory by featuring in a second-wicket stand of 86 runs.
And after consolidation by Patrick Browne and skipper Kenroy Williams, the result was formalised by the not-out pair of Horace Walrond and Shawn Sargeant, with 16 runs coming off Ryan Willoughby's last over as rain threatened.
