More lanes on highway

FOUR WORKING LANES of traffic on the ABC Highway between the Norman A. Niles, Clyde Walcott and Everton Weekes roundabouts are being promised in time for Christmas.
3S Barbados S.R.L., the company responsible for the highway project, said in a Press release that the lanes would be ready.
Project manager George Siddal said the work was progressing well along the stretch of highway and, along with the four lanes, will also include activated street lights.
"The lights are being installed along the highway and will be turned on as work progresses. Both northbound and southbound lanes have been surfaced, installation of the median barriers is completed and the lane marking is advanced," Siddall said.
The Belle area of the stretch has also been upgraded with a new merging lane feature, already in operation with public service announcements on the correct way to use this section airing on CBC TV 8.
"Motorists are complying and using the lanes appropriately with those turning into The Belle using the deceleration lane only, while those coming from The Belle are turning onto the acceleration lane and merging into either of the two lanes on the highway.
"This has resulted in a safe, freer flow of traffic and we are already seeing a reduction in traffic build-up," he said.
Siddall said work was also progressing as planned on other sections of the highway and he stressed that the company would keep the public up-to-date on progress of the project. (PR)
