Keen interest in new Florida flight
Published on: 6/23/07.
FOR JUST OVER $1 000, Barbadians can wing their way to Florida this summer.
While this is subject to availability, some travel agencies told the SATURDAY SUN yesterday the actual fare of $1 030 to Fort Lauderdale was on par with the fare to Miami.
To go to New York, the fare was slightly higher and fell within the region of $1 200.
On Wednesday, chief executive officer of Air Jamaica, Michael Conway, announced the special introductory fare of US$378, plus taxes, from July 22 until December 15, during a Press briefing at Sherbourne Conference Centre.
He expected the new flight to do well and surpass sales target projections.
However, a spokesperson for a leading travel agency on the South Coast said it had received numerous enquires about the flight, but there were no actual bookings.
Another agency reported several bookings to Fort Lauderdale, whose main shopping attraction is Saw Grass Mall which is located 15 miles from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and 30 miles from Miami International. (JW)
