ROAD TENNIS, Barbados' lone indigenous sport, will be on show in the United States of America as the World Road Tennis Federation (WRTF) continues its thrust to spread the game worldwide.
Following tours to Britain and across the Caribbean, president McArthur Barrow announced yesterday that road tennis would be part of the Barbados exhibition at the WorldFest on the Belvedere in Louisville, Kentucky, from Thursday through Saturday.
Last year, the festival attracted in excess of 50 000 spectators and has developed into the leading event to showcase the cultural diversity of the community. A Barbados pavilion will be set up at this year's festival to showcase kite-making and flying.
WRTF vice-president Roger Cutting will manage a team of four players which includes female island champion Kim Holder, leading female player Margo Lorde; road tennis coach/player Peter Moore and Philip Garner, a masters player and member of the executive.
Similar to what was done in Britain, there will be exhibition matches and video presentations as well as interviews with the various media to spread the word about the unique sport.
