PROLIFIC OPENING BATSMAN Anthony Alleyne hit a tournament-record 137 to give Barbados an emphatic 109-run win over home team St Kitts yesterday.
In the process, Barbados won the regional 13-and-under championship for the third year running.
Alleyne, who has now scored the only two centuries in the history of the ten-year tournament, cracked 13 fours and six sixes in his unbeaten 84-ball knock that took Barbados to a commanding 227 for two off the allotted 25 overs.
He and Jameel Stuart (32) had an opening stand of 74, and he also added 133 for the second wicket with Justin Greaves (39).
The St Kitts side, which is being coached by former West Indies player Keith Arthurton, could muster only 118 for eight, with Akeem Saunders leading the way with an undefeated 36.
For Barbados, fast bowler Darnell Greenidge took two for 13; left-arm spinner Shane Parris (2-12); and medium-pacer Gary Weekes (2-20).
It was the fourth straight win for Barbados, who will close the tournament today with a match against Anguilla at the new Warner Park. (MK)
