Pet Care plan to remove road kill
Published on: 8/30/06.
THE DAYS of dead animals lying at the side of the road are numbered.
Pet Care, a project being run by the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), Barbados Tourism Authority, Simpson Motors and the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) will see dead animals on Barbados' roads being removed. It will involve use of a special vehicle for the purpose.
BHTA president Alvin Jemmott said yesterday the full package would be unveiled on September 8 during an official launch at the Ship Inn.
"Pet Care will take care of the animals which from time to time get killed on our streets.
"We cannot have this continue to have a negative impact on the image of our tourism product," Jemmott said, adding that the vehicle was already here.
He explained that a telephone number would be advertised and posted on the side of the vehicle, allowing people to call when they saw a dead animal on the road.
Jemmott added the four entities came together to ensure that Barbados' image was taken care of.
Without going into detail, he said Simpson Motors would be responsible for servicing and maintaining the Pet Care vehicle.
"Between the SSA and Simpson Motors, along with available funds, we can have the successful management of Pet Care."
