WICB: Writ won't york 20/20

DESPITE THE CLOUD of doubt hanging over November's Stanford Twenty20 for 20 match, the West Indies Cricket Board remains positive the US$20 million clash will go ahead as scheduled.
Digicel, the West Indies team sponsors, on Friday filed an injunction in London to prevent the match from going ahead, claiming their rights had been infringed.
WICB chief executive Dr Donald Peters, however, said this would be contested and he believed the matter would be resolved in their favour.
"We are not part of this in that it is not our team, it is not the West Indies team that will be taking part, so Digicel's rights are not infringed.
"They are our sponsors but we disagree on this matter. They believe one thing and we believe another but we expect that commonsense will prevail," Peters said.
The injunction relates solely to the proposed match between England and the Stanford Superstars, part of the five-year, US$100 million series announced back in June.
However, Digicel is seeking to have the West Indies Cricket Board withdraw all approvals for the Stanford Super Series, the sequence of matches leading up to the November 1 contest.
In a statement yesterday, Digicel pointed to its sponsorship agreement with the WICB which says that any team that "represents, purports to represent or could reasonably be perceived as representing the West Indies" is covered by the terms of Digicel's exclusive sponsorship deal. (CMC/PR)
