'Forensics not just for crime'
Published on: 5/5/08.
ALTHOUGH THE FORENSIC SCIENCES CENTRE has been around for 11 years, the general public is still not fully aware of its purpose.
Director of the centre, Cheryl Corbin, made this observation yesterday after a church service at the Christ Church Parish Church.
"There needs to be much more advertising for people to understand that even though forensics is defined as sciences for the courts of law, it's not only used in criminal cases.
"We don't only perform forensic analysis, we do other types of scientific work with medical support," Corbin said.
She was supported by acting Attorney-General Michael Lashley, who said forensic science provided critical support to the law enforcement agencies.
The centre is hosting a week of activities which includes two public lectures one today focusing on man-made and natural disasters, and the other tomorrow on Family Relationship Testing with a panel, that includes Madame Justice Jacqueline Cornelius. Both lectures will be held at the Grand Salle of the Tom Adams Financial Centre, The City, starting at 7 p.m. (KB)
