BARBADOS currently lead the Caribbean Equestrian Association's (CEA) Junior Jumping Competition after taking their second win of the 2008 show jumping season.
The second leg of the competition was held in Bermuda over the April 26 weekend. Representing Barbados were Under-16 rider Kelsey Bayley and Under-14 rider Heather Walker, under the watchful eye of coach Diana Clarke.
Clarke told NATIONSPORT she was very happy with the performances of both girls who rode exceptionally well and deserved their success. Second place went to Jamaica, hosts Bermuda finished in third and the Cayman Islands took fourth position.
Bayley rode outstandingly well to emerge overall winner of the 16-And-Under age group. Walker was second in the 14-And-Under age group. Clarke said the conditions in Bermuda were superb for jumping even though they were somewhat cooler than that to which the two youngsters were accustomed.
American FEI 1 Judge Chrystine Tauber and Bermudan judge Pam Mahoney said they were very impressed with level of preparation of the Barbados team.
Barbados also took the first leg of the competition in Barbados in January this year.
The third leg will be held in Trinidad and Tobago at the end of May. Representing Barbados at this leg will be Emily Kinch in the 16-And-Under age group and Annemeik Mackie in the 14-And-Under category. (CH)
