SOME OF this island's senior citizens showcased their mettle yesterday when they participated in a sports day at the St Lucy District Hospital.
It formed part of the activities for Senior Citizens' Week and brought together some of the elderly people from not only that facility but other district hospitals.
Arawak Cement Plant, a St Lucy-based company, was the main sponsor of the fun day.
The company's corporate communications officer Wilma Gibson said this was Arawak's way of giving back to the community and the senior citizens of Barbados.
"They approached us last year for sponsorship. We did offer some sponsorship last year but this year we decided we would sponsor the entire day. This is Arawak's way of giving back to the community and to the seniors," she said.
Acting principal nursing officer of the St Lucy District Hospital, Brenda King, told the WEEKEND NATION that yesterday's activities were part of many, which ranged from a church service to a picnic, with a karaoke being planned for this evening.
The week ends tomorrow night with concert at the Alexandra School, Speightstown, St Peter. (AH)
