Sealy keeps Henry's Lane on victory row

FORMER NATIONAL CHAMPION Carl Sealy piloted Diamonds International Henry's Lane to a 4-1 win over Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) in Division 2 action at the Table Tennis Centre, John Beckles Drive, Constitution Road, St Michael, on Tuesday night.
Sealy played unbeaten as he won all three of his sets. He defeated Steve Skinner 11-3, 11-3, 11-3; Theodore Gill 11-3, 11-2, 11-2, and teamed up with Quinten Carmichael in the doubles and defeated Gill and Skinner 11-8, 11-7, 11-5.
Henry's Lane's other win came from Roseanne Butcher who edged out Mharno Winn in a four-game set, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 10-12.
BUT's only win came from Gill who beat Carmichael in the opening set, 11-3, 8-11, 11-5, 11-5.
Two other teams also registered 4-1 wins: Scouters over the Central Bank and Barbados Defence Force (BDF) against Kilowatt.
Key player
Stavro Bowen was the key player for Scouters, as he won his three sets.
After defeating Julien Jones in straight games, 11-8, 11-8, 14-12; he and Ricardo John defeated Kirk Beckford and David Bowen in a closely fought five-game set, 5-11, 11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6; and finally he routed Beckford in straight games in the fifth and final set, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.
Scouters' other win came from John who beat Beckford in the opening set, 11-6, 13-11, 7-11, 12-10.
David Bowen provided the bank with their lone win as he defeated Tryvonn Powlett in straight games, 11-3, 11-5, 11-5.
Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic was in the forefront of BDF's runaway win over Kilowatt. He won both his singles encounters, the first against Peter "German" Riley and the second against Philip Tull.
Bostic's encounter with Riley served up the most exciting set of the night, as he showed his fighting spirit by coming from two games down to win the set. After losing the first two games at eight and nine, Bostic rebounded to take the next three 11-8, 11-5, 11-4.
In his other singles set, Tull also took a game off him before going under 11-7, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9. In the doubles, he teamed up with Revaldo Joseph and they defeated Riley and Tull 11-4, 11-3, 13-11.
BDF's fourth set came off the racquet of Wendell Corbin who overcame David Kellman in a tight five-game set, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9, 5-11, 12-10, while Tull won Kilowatt's only set by beating Joseph 9-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-5.
