Be wary of roundabout at Lower Estate
Published on: 9/11/06.
THE LOWER ESTATE/ LEARS JUNCTION is now functioning as a roundabout and motorists are therefore asked to exercise caution with the new arrangement.
This morning the new traffic flow will be tested under extreme conditions for the first time with what is expected to be a significant increase in back-to-school traffic.
A statement from C.O. Williams Construction revealed that construction at the intersection had not reached the stage where all motorists must observe the clockwise flow of traffic, whether they approach from Lears, Lower Estate, Hothersal Turning or Dayrells.
The statement said it had been observed that some motorists were not reading the signs posted or exercising common driving practices in some construction sites and these drivers could cause serious problems for themselves and other road users.
"It is therefore imperative that everyone uses extreme caution in these situations and look out for the less observant and inexperienced driver," it added.
The construction work at the Lears/Lower Estate junction is being done from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. (PR)
