REFLECTING THE PRIDE
Published on: 3/27/08.
Barbados' young athletes returned home yesterday after doing themselves and their country proud over the Easter weekend at the 37th CARIFTA Games in Basseterre, St Kitts.
Led by captain Kierre Beckles' Under-20 Girls 110-metre hurdles record run, the team tallied 26 medals (seven gold, ten silver and nine bronze). It was one of Barbados' best showings in a decade at the Games.
They were met by family, friends, well-wishers and officials of the Amateur Athletic Association at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
Here, Beckles kisses the Austin Sealy Award she won for her record 13.43 seconds run, while (from left) Akela Jones, Shane Brathwaite, Trevor Ifill, John Jones, Kenrisha Brathwaite and Matthew Wright enjoy the moment.
