Griffith: A huge team effort

NINE ON A SCALE OF TEN.
That's how exultantant technical advisor Keith Griffith, rated Barbados' 1-0 victory over Dominica that took them through to the second stage of the World Cup football qualifiers.
"It was a big effort for the guys, it had to be a nine out of ten because we should have won by at least two or three clear goals. We created the chances. We played exciting, entertaining attacking football and in the end, God is good and I am happy with the victory," Griffith said.
He hailed the win as a huge team performance, noting that the England-based players such as Emmerson Boyce, Jonathan Forte and Jonathan Nurse, had made their mark in the game and blended well with the locally based players.
"Boyce (the roving right-back) was outstanding and showed why he plays in the premiership and the local players also adapted well. Forte was impressive all the way through and just couldn't finish, but that comes with time,he is only 21.
"I am happy. I really wanted to thank the fans who came out in their numbers and in their blue and gold at 3 p.m.," he said.
Dominica were somewhat disappointing. They based their game on the counter-attack but only rarely put together a string of passes, with little of note coming from forward Richard Pacquette, the goalscorer from the first leg clash.
"We knew Pacquette and the other foreign based players and we just marked them out. Their goalkeeper (Glenson Prince) kept them in the game on many occasions," Griffith added.
Barbados move to meet the United States with the first leg clash slated for June in California. (MK)
