Agard brings Maple joy

A blistering knock of 137 from former captain Pedro Agard, who shared an opening stand of 235 with Renaldo Parris, enabled CGI Maple to exact revenge over Banks in the Sagicor General Super Cup at the Brewery yesterday.
Set a challenging 264 for victory, Maple, behind Agard's 115-ball innings, won by six wickets with more than nine overs to spare and continued their dominance so far this season over their conquerers
in last year's Division 1 final.
The hosts, who won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch that offered no assistance to the bowlers, were themselves given
a rousing send off by all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite's belligerent 73 at the top of the order.
New skipper Sherwin Campbell contributed a fluent 61 to Banks' effort while spinners Shane Ramsey (4-40) and Don O'Neale (2-39) were the best bowlers for the visitors.
But Agard, with 13 fours and seven sixes, and Parris (nine fours and a six) put the issue beyond doubt by the 36th over when the latter fell for 85 to a catch at the wicket off Campbell.
AT WEYMOUTH 'A': Super Centre Spartan completed a nail-biting victory by one wicket with two balls to spare over Police.
Tension ran high as the final over started with Spartan needing three runs with one wicket in hand.
Left-armer Sadiq Hill's first delivery produced no runs as Andre Marshall faced up.
The next delivery was whipped
to mid-wicket for a hastily taken single. The third ball, bowled
to Philip Browne, was taken by Police keeper Herbert as the ball whizzed past the off-stump. But Spartan secured victory, reaching a target of 241, as Browne swept the next delivery to deep square-leg for a boundary.
AT PARAGON: Champions Sagicor UWI started their
defence of the title by defeating the BDFSP by 26 runs.
UWI batted first and were tottering on 93 for five before Wendell Coppin (47)
and Gilford Moore (37) revived the innings, which ended on 215.
BDFSP got off to a flying start, reaching 100 in the 16th over, but in a dramatic turn of events, they lost their last five wickets for just two runs and were dismissed
for 189. Wendell Coppin
and Hugh Husbands grabbed three wickets apiece.
AT BECKLES ROAD: Caribbean Lumber YMPC defeated BRC BCL by nine runs in a close contest.
Steven Blackett (44), and Jed Yearwood (43), helped YMPC to a total of 230. They featured in a second-wicket stand of 88 before both fell with the score on 101. Calvin Watson made a valuable 37 batting at No. 5.
BCL batted slowly and resolutely but were unable to overtake YMPC's total. Spinner Ryan Wiggins took three wickets.
AT OLD COLERIDGE:
ESA Field Pickwick registered
an easy victory over Oran Carib Bristol by 44 runs.
After being sent in, Pickwick recovered from 91 for six to reach 251. Ryan Layne with 67 and Ryan Arthur (49) were associated in a sixth-wicket partnership
of 83. Towards the end of the innings Rasheed Edwin chipped in with 37.
After reaching 105 for one, Bristol slumped to 207 all out. Terry Thompson, with 55 and Jason Worrell 47 were the main contributors.
