Bajan, Jamaican lads in tennis doubles final
Published on: 3/29/08.
PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad Barbadian Darian King and Jamaica's Brandon Burke shook off the disappointment of being knocked out of the singles competition to reach the semi-finals of the Boys' Under-18 doubles in the IBM/International Tennis Federation Junior Tournament on Thursday night.
Playing at the Jean Pierre Complex, King and Burke combined to great effect to defeat Mexicans Tigre Hank and Fernando Larrea-Gonzalez 7-6(4), 6-4 and will now meet American Octavio Perim and Ian Uriguen of Guatemala, for a place in today's final.
Perim and Uriguen came from a set down to beat Venezuelan duo Luis Ramirez and Alexander Rojas 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in their quarter-final.
The two other Caribbean teams in the doubles competition, Lendl Smith and Winfreid Weinbeer, and Rodney Carey and Kevin Deligny were both beaten. (CMC)
