PRIME MINISTER DAVID THOMPSON yesterday got a first-hand look at a number of projects that are being undertaken as well as those being considered for St John.
The almost five-hour tour across the constituency included stops at Supers, Codrington College, Bath Land, Consett Bay, Martin's Bay, the Gall Hill Community Centre, the unfinished St John Polyclinic and tenantry roads under construction at Cherry Grove.
The Prime Minister said: "I really went to see what progress was being made on these projects and I have suggested some improvements.
"I have identified work that we would like done at Martin's Bay, where we want that area to remain an
open-window to the sea, and there are plans to construct adequate beach amenities there . . . ."
He also had a look at two Rural Development Commission projects at Bath Land and Cherry Grove "as well as the issue of squatters at Bath Land which has to be resolved".
The Prime Minister also highlighted "remedial road work that needs to be done to some of the major arteries into St John".
In relation to the Gall Hill Community Centre, he said that there are plans for a new pavilion and sporting facility. Several other offices and services in addition to the polyclinic services are earmarked for the St John Polyclinic.
Thompson said: "We did not visit all the places (in St. John) where things need to be done; we picked out a few, but I also plan to visit some other constituencies over the next few weeks, then return to St John to make sure these projects are on stream."
The Prime Minister was accompanied by officials and technocrats from the Ministries of Public Works, Housing and Lands, Health, Community Development and Sports, as well as the National Conservation Commission. (PG/BGIS)
